Human Microphone
Dorothy Feaver & Stella Scott
Art Night, London, 22 June 2019
800 people, 30 performances, one song.
Human Microphone amplifies voices through the power of karaoke. This participatory project by Dorothy Feaver & Stella Scott entreats singers at the Chequers pub, Walthamstow to sustain a local anthem into the small hours of the next day.
‘Stay Another Day’ by East 17 put Walthamstow on the map, and for Art Night 2019, its sense of yearning is channelled through its place of origin, via a new instrumental cover and video. The performative live event is a platform for multiple renditions of the song, testing the point at which message becomes mantra and the staying power of the audience.

Won’t You Stay Another Day
A lyric from Walthamstow anthem ‘Stay Another Day’ (East 17) is isolated and repeated in this limited edition print mounted along Walthamstow Market (15 – 22 June 2019), bringing together the aesthetics of newsagent posters, civil protest and karaoke.
